Before building work starts.

Kirkton Woodlands and Heritage Group have a small woodlands, an Old Smithy building, and small crafts workshop just East of the village of Lochcarron. This is where some new crafts workshops will shortly be built, construction is due to start any day now. This blog will chart that process. After a long particularly wet winter the spring sunshine is starting to dry out the ground and signs of new greenery are starting on the short walk around the woodlands.

The Lochcarron Treehouse was built in this wooded area the last week of August 2011 and featured on a SKY1 TV programme. This was an exciting project funded by Sky and will be a tremendous boost to the community.  Since the production company left, local volunteers have been busy finishing off the building so it can be ready to be used by community groups and the public from this Easter. The Lochcarron Treehouse has its own Facebook page HERE. When it opens up for hire all funds will go towards the purchase of the Kirkton Woodlands behind the village of Lochcarron.  We envisage it being used for classes, workshops, photo shoots, weddings, music sessions, art and craft groups, meetings,  retreats, school groups and many more!

This picnic area and green is where the two new timber Craft units are getting built. There is a shortage of business premises in the area and a wealth of local artists and crafts makers looking for studio space. This site is the perfect solution.
