News July 2013

Our annual AGM was held in the tree house on the 9th July. Many thanks to all those who attended. The board outlined all the progress achieved over this last particularly busy year.  The two new Crafts buildings were completed, and tenanted. One has become the iGallery, visitor information point and local arts and crafts showcase. We delivered a programme of training courses and workshops through the winter. We hope to be able to do the same again this year. We started research work under the investing in ideas scheme from Heritage lottery. There were many meetings, seminars, events, fundraising bingo and Market days, volunteering days and all our work was recognized by being given the SURF award in creative community regeneration! None of which would be possible without the ongoing support from the community, our members, local businesses and the incredible amount of hard work behind the scenes of Kristine MacKenzie our local development officer.

The meeting also heard about the plans for the future. Work is currently underway to find out what the best use for the Former blacksmiths building at the smithy Community Hub would be, Visitors to the iGallery are participating in a survey this summer to see what they would like to see more of. It is hoped to apply for funding to renovate the Smithy building and do some other onsite improvements. KWHG is also involved with discussions around access into Kirkton woodland and various other local projects, as well as still working towards purchase and development of the woodland.

Many thanks go to our outgoing committee members, Rob and Michelle and a warm welcome to those who are stepping up to take on their roles.

Our fundraising calendar for 2014 is now available, this features some fascinating archive photographs. Thanks to the twelve local businesses who kindly sponsored a page each and to Michelle who worked hard to coordinate this. The Calendars will be available for sale at the Market days and at other local retail outlets, including the iGallery.
We will be organising another volunteer work party to do some landscaping and tidying at the smithy, once the July Games and other events are out of the way.
