The iGallery has Opened today, Monday 7th April for a second season. Following the positive feedback from the public about last year’s pilot scheme the KWHG board has opened up the Pinewood cabin, at the Smithy Community Hub, between Lochcarron and Strathcarron. The iGallery is run by KWHG to provide a much needed visitor information centre for the south west Ross corner of the Highlands. It also showcases local artists and makers, with a wide range of local produce and products. This unique project is manned by volunteers from the arts and crafts community as well as supporters of the Kirkton Woodland Community group. All revenue generated by the hire of showcase spaces goes towards the KWHG woodland acquisition fund. This area attracts a lot of creative people to live and work, so a showcase space like this is ideal for micro crafts businesses to make the next steps in growing their businesses and interacting with the buying public. Also on display is a wonderful range of items made by the local primary school children as part of their ‘crofting connections’ project, they have helped look after the sheep, gathered wool, then learnt how to spin, felt and knit with it. This is a great example of what can be done to preserve heritage skills and produce unique beautiful items in an eco friendly & sustainable way.
