Day one of the two days this week spent clearing gorse from the path to the viewpoint Cnoc na Staing has changed the skyline of Lochcarron and opened up the worst section of the path for walkers.
Five volunteers with hand tools and Trustee David Thomson with his chainsaw made short work of the overgrowth of gorse on a fifty-metre section at the top of the hill.
A second day is planned for Friday (1st December) when more gorse will be pruned back, and some work to drain the path will take place. There is still plenty to do, and more willing volunteers are always welcome.
This is work which people in Lochcarron have been looking forward to. After this is complete, the Kirkton Wood volunteers will be back in the forest, laying out paths and clearing some debris. We are meeting on Fridays in December, with 8th, 15th, 22nd and even 29th to come. There may be a few holiday-makers around between Christmas and New Year who would appreciate the chance to join in.
Perhaps see a few new faces!
